News: Evero hosts first DE&I Event at Energy Works Hull
29 June 2023
This June, Evero’s ‘Wasted Potential’ Diversity Equity and Inclusivity (DE&I) group, hosted their first event.
Taking place at Energy Works Hull, and coinciding with International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), the gathering was held for local students from the University of Hull.
Areeba Ajaz, a Process Engineer at Evero and University of Hull graduate, organised the event. “I had the honour and chance to plan and host University of Hull students at EWH on June 20, 2022. This is the first ‘Wasted Potential’ event that our gender diversity and inclusion group has participated in. When I witnessed how forthcoming the students were, it really made the event worthwhile, it really was such an exciting day.” – Areeba Ajaz.
The afternoon began with Areeba Ajaz and Simon Hicks (Evero CEO) introducing the company and how energy from waste technology works, before staff members from across the business introduced their professional background and their role at Evero.
A key theme of the day was gender diversity and inclusion, nodding to the importance of International Women in Engineering Day and INWED’s 2023 theme ‘Make Safety Seen’.
The presentations and Q&A sessions were followed by a safety induction and site tour of Energy Works Hull, providing an opportunity for the students to see first hand how gasification technology works to produce energy from our waste.
This was followed by a mentoring session for the students, where students were given a chance to ask for professional advice and make helpful connections.
‘Wasted Potential’, Evero’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity group, aims to host more events of this nature in the near future.
