Evero Energy is pleased to announce that its InBECCS project, which aims to become the UK’s first engineered greenhouse gas removal (GGR) facility, has been officially listed on Puro.earth’s Future Facility program – a leading global standard for durable carbon removals.
This listing represents a key opportunity for the UK to advance its ambitions around engineered carbon removals. InBECCS, located at Ince BioPower in Cheshire, has the capability to capture and permanently store up to 217,000 tonnes of biogenic CO₂ each year in geological storage via the HyNet North West network, using bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) technology.
Currently, InBECCS is the first and only UK BECCS project included in Puro.earth’s Future Facility program. “Our listing on Puro.earth highlights the strength and readiness of InBECCS as a compelling carbon removal opportunity,” said Elliot Renton, CEO of Evero Energy. “It’s a strong signal that the UK has the capability to lead in delivering high-integrity, permanent GGR solutions.”
By listing on Puro.earth, the project provides transparency to potential carbon credit buyers in the voluntary market and demonstrates alignment with Puro.earth’s rigorous criteria for engineered removals. If brought to fruition, the facility would produce high-integrity carbon credits that are fully measurable, reportable, and verifiable, offering the durability and assurance increasingly sought by corporate buyers across the globe.
As part of the commitment to transparency, the Preliminary Assessment Public Summary is available via the Puro.earth Supplier Listing, outlining the project’s scope, technology, feedstock sustainability, and long-term storage pathway.
“This milestone underscores Evero’s growing role in the greenhouse gas removals space and highlights the UK’s potential to build a world-class removals industry,” added Renton. “By combining CCUS technology with domestically sourced waste wood and permanent geological storage, InBECCS shows how we could turn today’s waste into tomorrow’s energy and climate solution.”
“We’re delighted to list Evero’s InBECCS project on Puro.earth. Passing our Preliminary Assessment demonstrates the project’s alignment with the rigorous requirements of the Puro Standard and provides a clear pathway toward full certification,” said Trenton Spindler, Chief Growth Officer at Puro.earth. “Early-stage transparency is essential for enabling offtake discussions and unlocking finance, and InBECCS sets an encouraging benchmark for the UK’s growing engineered removals sector.”
